WORK/SHOP

FAQ

WORK/SHOP was born with a vision to create community. Owner, Meghan Sheahan is a full time metalsmith/jewelry designer. Meghan noticed how many of her artist/maker friends were doing the same thing — each working hard, alone in their studios. All attempting to grow their art practices, businesses and reach new clients in the same ways, but finding it difficult to manage. It takes a lot of energy and resources to be a successful working artist, and sometimes it feels like everyone is trying to reinvent the wheel on their own.

At the same time, Meghan, a working mom with young children, felt it difficult to find time for self-care. She noticed how many activities and opportunities she signed-up her children for, and thought “Why don’t I give my own growth and self-care this much attention?”

We try to do everything for everyone, and we get lost in the process. We distract ourselves with social media in our down time, but don’t get any real connection in the process. We live in our brains and not in our bodies.

This space is Meghan’s attempt to bring together all the extremely talented, creative small business owners and artists she knows and connect them with people that need reminding that “PLAY” is not just for our kids. We need down time — away from our phones — to be in our bodies, to connect with real people, to be creative, to learn new skills and make something with our own hands. We need time and space to remember who we are outside of all our responsibilities.

So here we are — a new space for art and community in the heart of East Tosa. You might discover a new talent. You might make something that you love, or maybe you don’t love it, but you know what? That’s ok! We have been fooled into thinking that all our time must be productive to be valid. We are not machines. We deserve to rest. We deserve to play. We deserve the same care and attention that we give our children.

Join us. Let’s be brave and try new things together. All are welcome here.
